The Great Outdoors

Learning through play is simply more fun outside, so outdoor play is built into each morning and afternoon’s activities, unless the conditions are too severe. So at Toad Hall we use the outdoors as an extension to the classroom and will often extended indoor activities to the outdoors so that the children's learning experience is enhanced.

Within the grounds of Toad Hall we have a large garden that is sectioned into varying areas so that all children have continuous access all day with different provisions.  We have both large and small play equipment including a purpose-built playground with colourful safety flooring and cycle track, a nature area,  pavilion, play fire station and supermarket, sandpit, a vegetable patch and planting area, greenhouse and potting shed that has been scaled to suit the needs of the children. There is also plenty of space to run and exercise those growing muscles.

As well as fostering a love of nature, outdoor play encourages healthy physical activity, team play and social inclusion. Anyone who takes children outside regularly sees the enjoyment, and sense of wonder and excitement that is generated when children actively engage with their environment.
